Please join LDRC Volunteer Linda Reeves for a Lunchtime Book Chat on Saturday, November 15, noon-2pm ET.  She will be discussing the novel West With Giraffes by Lynda Rutledge.

Based on a true historical event, this is a beautifully written heart-warming book about a boy coming of age.  It explores the relationship between humans and animals and how they can shape each others’ destinies.

In 1938, two young giraffes arrive in New York City, barely surviving a hurricane during their transatlantic journey.  As they are transported across the country with the help of a young orphan boy, the challenges of the road trip reflect the struggles of the era, exploring themes of resilience, love, loss, animal rights, self-discovery and finding one’s purpose.

Linda has been a Volunteer with the Center since May 2024.  She lives in the Albany, NY area and has been battling Lyme disease for over nine years.  She’s an avid reader and loves to share her books with others.

West With Giraffes is available on Amazon, Audible and in your local libraries.

Please bring your lunch and gather with some old (and maybe new) friends for a casual Book Chat to share your thoughts about this truly wonderful, heartfelt novel.  We’d love your company even if you haven’t yet read the book — come join the fun!

If you have suggestions for other books you’d like to discuss at future Book Chats, please let us know when you register.
